Objective Epilepsy is a chronic and relapsing brain disease, and severely threatens physical and mental health of the patients.How to precisely locate the epileptogenic focus has become a new hotpoint of medical research.The aim of this paper is to locate the epileptogenic focus through information transfer characteristic based on brain networks, and to provide new insights for epileptogenic focus localization.Methods The experimental data are intracranial EEGs obtained from 5 patients with temporal lobe epilepsy.The causality analysis in frequency domain is applied to construct causality network of the characteristic frequency bands of EEGs and compute causal flow of network nodes.Results (1) The advantage of the energy distribution of EEG in the patients with temporal lobe epilepsy are delta and theta frequency, the energy of delta and theta frequency are greater compared to the other bands.The energy in the focus are greater compared to the corresponding bands in the non-focus. (2) Causal flow value in the focus of temporal lobe epilepsy is less than 0, while in the non-focus is greater than 0.Conclusions (1) The characteristic frequency bands ofEEG in temporal lobe epilepsy are δ and θ.The energy of the two characteristic frequency bands in the focus are abnormally increased. (2) In the causality network of temporal lobe epilepsy, the brain area that is defined as a causal sink is the clinical focus and the area that is defined as a causal source is the clinical non-focus.The focus is likely to be easily influenced by the non-focus.
