This paper presents the difficulties and challenges on the braincomputer interface (BCI) by showing the BCI research status and comparisons among different technical experiment methods. From the series views of research size, focus region, institution distribution, research achievement and the drivers on BCI, this paper analyzes quantitatively the SCI papers in WOS and the international patents of DII, that describes China’s BCI research progress and international status. As a whole, the BCI research in China has a good foundation, lying on the cutting edge of international BCI research with the United States, Austria, Germany and other developed countries.
