Aim To analyze the parameter of non-invasive wave intensity (WI) in carotid artery and discuss the relationship between WI and left ventricular function for healthy people. Methods Thirty-four healthy people were assessed by WI and conventional transthoracic echocardiography for left ventricular function. Results WI parameters between left and right carotids had no significant difference (P>0.05). The correlation analysis showed positive correlation between the early systolic WI(W1) and cardiac ejection fraction (EF), W1 and the ratio of early diastolic E and late diastolic A (E/A) in Simpson model . W1 and the ratio of early diastolic E′ and late diastolic A′ (E′/A′) in DTI model. The results showed the negative correlation between the ratio of E and E′ and the ratio of E′ and A′. However there were no significant correlations between end systolic WI(W2) and the radio of E and A, the ratio of E′ and A′, and the ratio of E and E′. Conclusion The parameters W1, which could reflect left ventricular systolic function, was valuable in clinic. The parameter W2 was not supposed for evaluation of left ventricular diastolic function. Further research is deserved in evaluating left ventricle function, especially diastolic function by non-invasive wave intensity.
