Objective In order to supply the theoretic proof and reference for optimal
designing vaneless centrifugal pump,the relationship between the structure of vaneless
centrifugal pump and key parameters in extracorporeal circulation were explored.Methods The
calculation model of vaneless centrifugal pump was simulated and validated in terms of key
performance parameters such as pump’s structure,rotation speed,flow rate,flow state in
pump,and prime volume by the method of computational fluid dynamics (CFD).Results The
centrifugal pump with two layer of impeller was more powerful,however with more prime
volume in pumping blood,than that with one in the same rotation speed.The pump with a
smaller pipe diameter was favorable for changing the flow rate.The structure and rotation
speed greatly affected the velocity distribution in the pump.Conclusions The structure and
rotation speed of vaneless centrifugal pump make a great impact on the control strategies
of flow,velocity distribution and prime volume.
