The precise placement of stents improves the effect of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the treatment of aorto-ostial lesions. Three existing methods for stent positioning and the related supporting equipments are discussed as key points in this paper, including stent draw-back technique, the Szabo or “tail-wire” technique, and the ostial stent positioning system (Ostial Pro) used with self-expandable nitinol stent. This paper illustrates the key technical requirement of the precise positioning for stent implantation, introduces the clinical use of the three stent positioning techniques at home and abroad. At last, the paper introduces a new knitted stent positioning system made of nitinol wire, which is designed by the authors and may improve the safety and the controllability of stent positioning systems to treat the ostial lesions in the future.
