Objective The existing models simulating human urinary system have certain disadvantages such as simple structure,limited function,unsuitability for simulating experiments in vitro,etc. Based on medical engineering,this paper presents how to design and manufacture a multifunctional and transparent urinary system model which has a double-layer pipe wall structure,by applying computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to medical simulation model exploitation. Methods Firstly,we finish the model design through UG software based on existing human urinary system parameters. Secondly,MasterCAM software is used,model components are manufactured through computer numerical control and components are assembled at last. Results The advantages of this transparent urinary system model with double-layer pipe wall structure are multifunction,low cost,high-level simulation,etc. Conclusions This transparent urinary system model is a novel attempt in the combination of medicine and engineering.
