Objective To aim at “blind area” in interventional operation and to meet the more precise navigation need in minimally invasive operation, this paper discusses a new Aurora electromagnetic tracking system for surgical navigation. Methods With Aurora electromagnetic tracking system, which contains a serial of metal materials for surgical environment, the control software, and the SDK (secondary development kit), a real-time display system suitable for surgical navigation is compiled by using VC programming language.Performance tests and comparison experiments are carried out in the First People’s Hospital of Jingzhou City. Results The positioning precision of operation improves from centimeter to millimeter and the average of navigation precision is less than 2mm.The software package can be secondary developed, the programming operation is convenient, and the combination with surgical instrument is flexible, which makes the realization of intelligent surgical navigation. Conclusions Superior performance and the significance of the Aurora electromagnetic tracking system in surgical navigation are verified in this paper.Accuracy and controllability of surgical navigation are improved, which provides a broader clinical application area.
