Objective In order to study on the portable unit that can non-contact monitor vital signs such as respiration and heartbeat in real-time, a card-sized radar life detector is designed and realized. Methods Acquiring micro movement signal based on Doppler radar principles, the system transmits signals that have been preprocessed via Bluetooth to smart mobile terminal.Efficient algorithm is adopted to process and extract the vital signs and displays the results real-timely on Android platform. Results Monitoring the subject under two conditions, there is no significant difference between the average data from the experiment and the data acquired in common method (the accuracies of average respiration rate and heartbeat rate are 93.75% and 97.33%, respectively). The experiment shows that the system can acquire the information of heartbeat and respiration, and process the signals accurately. Conclusions The system can monitor vital signs of a single target non-contactly, which provides miniaturized and portable solution for cardiopulmonary monitoring in family care.
