Objective Aiming at studying the influences of alcohol dependence on individual
brain electric signals,we made a comparison between the patients with alcohol dependence and
the healthy control subjects, expecting to get the impact of alcohol on individuals. Methods
One hundred and two cases of EEG data used in this paper were from Henry’s experiment in
State University of New York. After removing the artifact, extracting the EEG feature waves
and calculating the relevant EEG parameters, the statistics analysis was done to analyze the
difference of EEG between alcoholics and healthy control subjects. Results Compared with
healthy control subjects, the alcoholics’ relative power of α band decreased, especially in
parietal and occipital regions. The power of θ band decreased, especially in temporal
region. The power of β band increased in all brain regions. The R-value decreased while the
gravity frequency increased in each region. Conclusions Alcohol dependence makes patients’
EEG signals migrates to the high frequency, increases the excitability of cerebral cortex and
makes brain activities more complicated.
