Objective Studying the effect of the changes in artery elasticity on pulse wave velocity provides the theoretical basis for the early screening in arteriosclerosis based on pulse wave. Methods By introducing the attenuation coefficient into the traditional Tube-Load model and considering the complex structure of the artery tree, this research builds a multiple branched Tube-Load model which contains the main arteries of the body. This research also simulates the influence of artery elasticity on pulse wave velocity. Results The waveform and other parameters of the simulated arterial pressure wave are in good accordance with the results of other literatures. This research also establishes the relation curve between the extent of arteriosclerosis and the pulse wave velocity. Conclusions The multiple branched Tube-Load model in this research can simulate the propagation and reflection of the pulse in the main artery, and this research reveals the influence of the arterial elasticity on the pulse wave velocity.
