Objective We study on the correlation between the graphic mode of Poincare scatter and T-wave alternans, and evaluate the reliability of morphological index for detecting T wave alternans presence in order to provide an accurate, effective and simple detection method of calculation for T wave alternans detection. Methods Firstly, the vector length index (VLI) based on the graph of the scatter plot is presented. Then VLI proposed in the scatter plot graph simulates the American Standard MIT/BIH arrhythmia database and the European ST-T ECG database by MATLAB7.0. Lastly, the results of VLI and Vtwa are compared to determine the threshold and make the correlation analysis. Results The simulation test results indicate that TWA is present in electrocardiogram (ECG) as VLI is equal to or less than 10 ms. Otherwise, TWA is absent. The kappa consistency test is K=0.6932, namely VLI and Vtwa has a strong correlation. Conclusions VLI can be used for the detection of T-wave alternans.
